Movement Climbing + Fitness

Movement Climbing + Fitness is located in Boulder, CO. This very modern and clean facility opened just last summer by Mike and Ann Worley Moelter. Mike is the former owner of ABS and is one of just three IFSC internationally certified setters in the US. His wife Ann Worley is the former executive director of USA Climbing.

With such a resume you know a gym built by this couple would be world class. Due to height restrictions in Boulder, Mike and Ann Worley had to dig down nearly 10ft to get their 40ft walls. This gym was built keeping high-profile competitions in mind. The spectacular lead wall at the center of the gym, called The Voyager, has stadium seating under it. Above that is the main floor, with a bouldering area, offices, front desk and facilities. That's not it! Above the main floor is yet another floor with a mezzanine of fitness equipment so you can watch climbers while you work out. The 3rd floor also boosts cycling, yoga and weight rooms.

The number of pro climbers training in Movement on any given night is in the double digits.

The gyms website has an interesting section called Redpoint, where members can stay up-to-date with the setting and even request routes of a certain grade and style for a particular wall.

Many people questioned why yet another climbing gym was being built in Boulder, and how it would survive with 4 gyms already providing indoor climbing to the front range climbers. You get your answer after just one visit to this amazing facility.

  7. That's so cool! You think that the new gym in Atlanta is gonna be cooler?

  8. I personally think Movement will have better walls. The Atlanta gym seems like it will be a little too choppy for me. I want subtle angle changes.
