Hang Outs - Dandelion Communitea Cafe
By Tara Ziegler
Dandelion's philosophy is something they incorporate into their business everyday, "Be the change you wish to see in the world". The founders firmly believe in filling bellies with only the most healthy and natural of ingredients, to promote a clean mind and body, without sacrificing taste.
This is still not your everyday vegan, vegetarian cafe, and certainly not the expected hippy scene. Staying true to their name, Dandelion Communitea Cafe stands strong on it's impact within the community by working with local farmers for their delicious bites and serving only fair trade coffees and teas. Even the beer selection is kept local and organic. Dandelion has definitely done it's research and it shows.
Nestled in an older, but charming, brightly decorated house on the cusp of downtown, they take many opportunities to host smaller local events that have a big impact. While dining rooms in the house (there are several rooms to enjoy your meal in, as it still maintains that "homey" atmosphere) can get a bit crowded and crammed, you have the option of taking your culinary goodies outside to their beautiful expansive yard, where you can set up picnic style or hang with the luscious garden and soak up some sun.
Since the new year, Dandelion has expanded their menu a bit and of course kept their award winning items, but my go-to is their Henry's Hearty Chili. Not being a vegan girl myself, it was difficult to imagine one of my childhood favorites without some of it's crucial ingredients. The sweet potato burrito and nachos are also a reason I find myself going back.
Deliriously delicious food and some extremely tasty teas will have you leaving happy, feeling healthy and possibly a little more mindful.
