"VOLUMES .005"

By Guillermo Casanova

We live in Orlando and we love to climb, so we’re already pretty screwed, but it is this mutual pain that binds us together as a community. Lacking mountains or boulders to climb on, we search for other forms of entertainment outside of the gym. Because of this, we created VOLUMES; a series of music compilations curated by yours truly, meant to showcase fresh music from talented artists right here in our local community.

Talent is all around us , and we get too much bad rep of being known as a cultural wasteland, where nothing interesting ever happens and where all one can find is Mickey Mouse, suburbs, and clubs. Volumes is an attempt to give local talent much deserved light by bringing it to fellow Floridians, with the goal of strengthening connections in the community and making you aware Florida is booming with activity.

We hope you enjoy exploring the work of these musicians, go to their shows, get out there and show that Florida is not a place of mass exodus, but the place to be. So whether you are climbing, working out or just chillin’, these sounds are sure to enhance whatever situation you might find yourself in. You may download the full compilation for free here.

On a serious note.

Recently Florida's Relief In Abstract Records' co-founder Jered Dowden was involved in a terrible car crash that broke both of his legs. Recovery for him will take months of therapy, but his insurance will not cover all of the costs. Thankfully, the Florida music community has come out to help out by organizing a series of benefit shows and compilations. The first show of which
will be on August 11th at Backbooth, with XXYYXX, Fortune Howl, GRANT, and ABDECAF. The show is bound to be fantastic and half of the proceeds will go out to help cover the cost of Jered's recovery process. The second benefit show, named "STAND UP WITH JERED" will be at Will's Pub and sponsored by North Avenue Studios, PostScript, and NorseKorea, featuring Saskatchewan, Michael Parallax, Out Go The Lights, GRANT, Marble, XXYYXX, and Fortune Howl. All of the proceeds of this show will be donated to the cause. If you wish to help out even further you may head on to Jered's Give Forward Page here. This is a time for the community to get together and give back to a great person who has been working hard towards the development of the community here in Florida.
